Next Push

You’ve seen the pictures. You know that there was a mosaic marathon in July.  But, have you heard that marathon #2 is in October?  Yep, October 11-12.

In order to get a jump-start on the next marathon, Nancy is heading up a team of grouters who will finish off the third panel and get it hung.  Each figure will be grouted in colors matching the tesserae used.  Lots of taping.  Lots of cleaning.

Nancy cleans the room before even thinking about taping off a mosaic area and mixing grout.

Nancy cleans after yellow-grouting a head of hair and a shirt.

Did I mention cleaning?  Yes, after the grouting, the whole panel needs cleaning to remove mortar that might have been a bit too enthusiastically applied and grout that seeped over into no-grout land.  A good polish with a soft cloth will then finish it off.

Tutorial: Here is an example of mortar that needs digging out. See the mortar erupting over the tesserae next-door? That can be cleaned off when damp more easily than after the cement is cured.
